The Drolet Escape 1200 N is a compact, EPA-certified pedestal wood stove built to heat up to 1,200 sq. ft. with up to 75,000 BTU/h. It is the smallest stove in the Escape series, which makes it a good fit for smaller homes, cabins, workshops and mobile homes. Not sure which size is right for you? Our Wood & Pellet Stove Buying Guide walks through sizing, fuel and installation.

Cleaner, More Efficient Wood Heat

The Escape 1200 N is a non-catalytic stove that meets the EPA 2020 cord wood standard with a low 1.7 g/h particulate emissions rate. Drolet's NexBurn technology and a tertiary combustion zone help ignite quickly and burn the wood more completely from front to back. EPA-certified stoves like this one are far cleaner than older, non-certified stoves, and the EPA says certified stoves use up to one-third less firewood to produce the same heat.

Key Features
  • Heats 250 to 1,200 sq. ft. with a maximum output of 75,000 BTU/h (dry cordwood)
  • EPA 2020 certified, non-catalytic, 1.7 g/h average particulate emissions
  • 74% average efficiency (HHV), 81% optimum efficiency (LHV)
  • Burn time up to 5 hours on a full load
  • Takes logs up to 17" (loaded north-south) with a 1.85 cu. ft. firebox (1.67 cu. ft. EPA loading volume)
  • NexBurn technology and four secondary air tubes for quick ignition and cleaner combustion
  • Self-cleaning airwash glass system keeps the ceramic glass clear for a better view of the flames
  • Cast iron door frame with adjustable hinges, plus an ash lip, air control and a refractory brick lining
  • Deeper firebox holds more ash, so you clean it out less often
  • Approved for mobile home and alcove installation when installed per the owner's manual
  • Safety tested to UL 1482, UL 737 and ULC S627
  • Optional blower (up to 100 CFM) available to move more heat into the room
Installation Requirements
  • Flue: 6" flue outlet. Use a 6" connector pipe and a ULC S629 / UL 103 HT (2100°F) chimney with a minimum height of 12 ft.
  • Floor protection: Safe for combustible floors, but the stove must sit on a continuous non-combustible surface (such as steel, cement board, brick or sealed tile over a non-combustible sheet) to catch embers. No R-value is required, and none is needed on a non-combustible floor such as concrete. See the manual for the required size.
  • Clearances: Clearances to combustibles depend on whether you use single-wall or double-wall connector pipe. The optional AC02762 heat shield, or an approved wall shield built to the manual's rules, lets you install closer to walls. Always follow the owner's manual and your local building codes.
  • Mobile homes: Double-wall connector pipe is required (single-wall is prohibited), along with the optional fresh air intake kit and an insulated air intake pipe. Fire screens may not be used in a mobile home.
  • Installation should be done by a qualified installer, and local building or fire officials should be contacted about permits and inspections.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much space will the Escape 1200 N heat?
Drolet recommends it for 250 to 1,200 sq. ft. Actual results depend on your home's layout, insulation, climate and chimney draft.

Can I install it in a mobile home?
Yes. It is approved for mobile and manufactured homes, but it needs double-wall connector pipe, the optional fresh air intake kit and an insulated air intake pipe. Follow the manual exactly.

Does it need a hearth pad?
It needs a continuous non-combustible surface under and in front of the stove to protect against embers. No R-value is required. Check the manual's floor protection diagram for the exact size.

What wood should I burn?
Dry cordwood only. Seasoned wood burns hotter and cleaner. Burning other materials can void the warranty.

Can I add a blower?
Yes. An optional variable-speed blower (up to 100 CFM) and thermodisc are sold separately and install on the back of the stove.

Warranty

Backed by the Drolet Limited Lifetime Warranty for the original retail purchaser: lifetime parts and 3 years of labor on the combustion chamber (welds only) and cast iron door frame; 5 years on heat shields, pedestal and similar components; 3 years on glass retainers, handle assembly and air control (1 year labor); and 2 years on carbon steel combustion chamber parts and vermiculite baffles. Blowers, electrical parts and other options carry 1 year. Firebricks are not covered. Proof of purchase is required, and registering online is recommended: Drolet warranty registration.
