Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Boston 36 need a remote?
No. It runs from a low-voltage (millivolt-rated) wall switch. The control module also has a built-in remote receiver, so you can add the Basic Remote for Electronic Ignition from our add-on options. See the owner's manual for wiring and setup.

Will it work during a power outage?
The control module runs on a plug-in 110V AC adapter. With the adapter alone there is no backup power during an outage. The manual lists an optional battery backup package for that purpose.

What venting does the Boston 36 use?
It uses 4" x 6" direct vent flex pipe with top venting and horizontal or vertical termination. Venting is required for every installation. Follow the owner's manual and your local building codes for vent layouts and clearances.

Is it available in natural gas and propane?
Yes. Select natural gas or propane above.

Can I use it above 4,500 feet?
The Boston 36 is set for 0–4,500 ft as shipped. Higher elevations need smaller orifices. See the manual for sizes.

Is the Boston 36 a good indoor gas fireplace for a small room or shallow wall?
It can be. The framing depth is under 10", so it suits shallow wall builds, bedrooms and tight new-construction layouts. At 16,000 BTU it is a smaller heat output than our larger linear models, so confirm sizing for your room and review the owner's manual and local codes.
